Dear Members and Friends,
It is an honor to serve as President of the Jewish Bar Association of Broward County. Our Association stands at the intersection of two traditions that have shaped all of our lives: the Jewish commitment to justice, learning, and community, and the legal profession’s dedication to the rule of law and service to others. When we come together as Jewish lawyers, judges, students, and allies, we do more than network – we affirm who we are and what we stand for.
The Hebrew phrase “tzedek, tzedek tirdof” – “Justice, justice shall you pursue” – is more than a line from the Torah. It is a daily charge. In our roles as advocates, counselors, judges, and leaders, we are given the privilege and responsibility of helping people through some of the most important and difficult moments of their lives. Our work can safeguard families, protect rights, build businesses, and strengthen our community. That is sacred work.
At the same time, the practice of law can be demanding and, at times, isolating. One of my highest priorities this year is to ensure that no one in our Jewish legal community feels that they are walking this path alone. Through our programs, holiday events, CLEs, mentoring, and tikkun olam initiatives, we strive to create a place where you can deepen your professional skills, strengthen your Jewish identity, and build lasting relationships.
Whether you are a seasoned practitioner, a new lawyer, a law student, or a member of the judiciary, there is a place for you here. I invite you to get involved this year: attend our events, join a committee, mentor a younger lawyer, or simply show up and add your voice to the conversation. Every person who leans in strengthens our Association and the broader community we serve.
Thank you for the privilege of serving as your President. Tzedek, tzedek tirdof – may we, together, continue the pursuit of justice.
Am Yisrael Chai,
Brian Koch
President, Jewish Bar Association of Broward County
